EMDR Consultation

Being trained and / or certified in EMDR therapy is a time consuming, intense, and expensive proposition. Whether you are working toward certification or just being trained EMDRIA requires that you undergo significant consultation with an EMDR therapist certified to provide this consultation. An EMDR consultant insures that your training will be complete and insures the safety of the clients you find yourself working with. As EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD, the safety of your clients is of utmost importance. As an EMDR therapist, your clients depend on your to provide safe and effective treatment  for trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addictions, and other issues that have plagued them throughout most of their lives.

During initial training, EMDRIA requires that trainees participate in ten (10) hour of consultation with an approved consultant. This consultation augments the initial training to ensure you meet the minimum acceptable level of competency. As you progress in your EMDR therapy training more consultation (and more advanced training) is required. If your goal is to be certified in EMDR, and additional 20 hours of consultation (and more advanced training) is required. By the time a clinician reaches Consultant level, they will have received at minimum 50 hours of certified consultation and over 100 hours of EMDR training. As you can see, becoming an EMDR therapist is an intense endeavor, but well worth the effort and investment. Regardless of where you practice, the training and consultation is the same. I will be happy to talk to you about your training and certification needs.
